Microlearning : Reduce the number of mandatory fields in the registration form

Friday, June 28th, 2013

A new Phraseanet tutorial today about the registration form.
Can we reduce the number of mandatory fields?

The answer is yes. But this customization is not possible within the Phraseanet interfaces. To choose the mandatory fields of the registration form, please follow this process:

1- Create the register-fields.php file in the config directory.
2- Insert the following :

< ?php $arrayVerif = array( "form_login" => true,
“form_password” => true,
“form_password_confirm” => true,
“form_gender” => true,
“form_lastname” => true,
“form_firstname” => true,
“form_email” => true,
“form_job” => true,
“form_company” => true,
“form_activity” => true,
“form_phone” => true,
“form_fax” => true,
“form_address” => true,
“form_zip” => true,
“form_geonameid” => true,
“demand” => true);

True and false determine the mandatory character (or not) to fill in the fields: if true, the field is mandatory ; if false, it is optional. Important : do not close the PHP tag at the end of file.

We hope that this microlearning will help you customize your Phraseanet system. Feel free to send all your questions on the Google Groups, social networks or for any other request, by email

Tutorials : The Phraseanet Community is growing…

Friday, May 10th, 2013

As you all already know, we decided to release Phraseanet as an Open Source software a few years ago to allow as many as possible to download it and to use it for free.

Our team is glad to see today that the community around Phraseanet is constantly growing. Many of you are already following us on the social networks (Facebook & Twitter) and on the Google Groups. Some of you also wrote tutorials to help others to install Phraseanet.

These guides can be found over the internet. We cannot guarantee the content in these tutorials because they have not been written or even reviewed by members of our team. But we thank the members of the community who wrote these tutorials and who share their time to the Phraseanet project so here are some of them: (in French) (in French) (in English)

You also wrote a tutorial and wish to tell us ? Please send us an email !

Of course other tutorials in English can be found on the two Google Groups:

-The “Installation” Forum :

-The “Support” Forum :

Best regards,

-The Phraseanet Team

NB: When you’re about to setup Phraseanet, please don’t forget to always use the latest release available  which can be found here:

Brand new : a WordPress plugin for Phraseanet

Tuesday, March 26th, 2013

We introduced you to our new WordPress plugin for Phraseanet at Documation Trade Show last week. You may now publish Phraseanet content on a WordPress website!

It is very easy to insert digital files from your Phraseanet database. Here are a few explanations…

1/ Login to your WordPress website
Create a new article, write some text. Then click on the icon “Insert a Phraseanet content”. You will search for documents in your Phraseanet system.

2/ Choose the tab: “Insert a media” to insert one single picture. Enter the keywords to find the right pic, choose the media and insert in your article.

3/ Display the article on the WordPress website to view your Phraseanet content…

If you wish to insert a batch of documents.

1/ Create a new article (same procedure, see above).

2/ Click on tab “Insert a gallery”.

3/ Select the documents. Your files appear on the right side of the window. Then, click on “Create the gallery”.

You may enter informations on the pics, then choose the gallery display mode : “List”, “Grid” or”Caroussel”.

Let’s choose the “Grid” mode: Here is the display on your WordPress website.

Need to know more about this? Contact us by email: and follow us on the social networks…

Microlearning: How to import a Thesaurus in Phraseanet

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

Today, we are introducing you to a new tutorial : Import a Thesaurus in Phraseanet.

To import a Thesaurus, you will first need to :

– Activate the Phraseanet Thesaurus in the Administration module (see the paragraph about the additionnal modules in the Setup page of Phraseanet Administration).
-Setup a documentary structure
-You will also need a Thesaurus as a tabulated text type file supporting UTF8.

Then, use the following steps:
– In the Phraseanet menu bar, click on the Thesaurus section. Phraseanet Thesaurus opens in a new page / tab.
-Select an interface / editing language then click on ok.
-Right click on the term Thesaurus in the right part of your screen.
-Click on Import. A pop up window appears.
-Select the Thesaurus file on your computer then click on ok.

Depending on the size of your file and on your internet connection, times may vary.

Once the file is loaded:

– The head branches of the Thesaurus (which are the terms on the left in the text file of the Thesaurus) appear on the screen. No spaces or special characters for these terms. They may correspond to field titles of your documentary structure.
– On each of these first level terms, right click and choose the “Link to field” section. A popup window opens.
– Tick the box corresponding to the documentary field that you wish to link to the thesaurus branch. Then validate the form.

The system will ask if you wish to reindex the database. You may first decline and choose to redindex the database later.

That’s it for now ! We hope this tutorial will be useful.

-> You haven’t downloaded Phraseanet yet? We remind you that our Open Source DAM software is available on the sourceforge website:
