A new Phraseanet tutorial today about the registration form.
Can we reduce the number of mandatory fields?

The answer is yes. But this customization is not possible within the Phraseanet interfaces. To choose the mandatory fields of the registration form, please follow this process:

1- Create the register-fields.php file in the config directory.
2- Insert the following :

True and false determine the mandatory character (or not) to fill in the fields: if true, the field is mandatory ; if false, it is optional. Important : do not close the PHP tag at the end of file.

As you all already know, we decided to release Phraseanet as an Open Source software a few years ago to allow as many as possible to download it and to use it for free.

Today, we are introducing you to a new tutorial : Import a Thesaurus in Phraseanet.

To import a Thesaurus, you will first need to :

– Activate the Phraseanet Thesaurus in the Administration module (see the paragraph about the additionnal modules in the Setup page of Phraseanet Administration).
-Setup a documentary structure
-You will also need a Thesaurus as a tabulated text type file supporting UTF8.

Then, use the following steps:
– In the Phraseanet menu bar, click on the Thesaurus section. Phraseanet Thesaurus opens in a new page / tab.
-Select an interface / editing language then click on ok.
-Right click on the term Thesaurus in the right part of your screen.
-Click on Import. A pop up window appears.
-Select the Thesaurus file on your computer then click on ok.

Depending on the size of your file and on your internet connection, times may vary.

Once the file is loaded:

– The head branches of the Thesaurus (which are the terms on the left in the text file of the Thesaurus) appear on the screen. No spaces or special characters for these terms. They may correspond to field titles of your documentary structure.
– On each of these first level terms, right click and choose the “Link to field” section. A popup window opens.
– Tick the box corresponding to the documentary field that you wish to link to the thesaurus branch. Then validate the form.

The system will ask if you wish to reindex the database. You may first decline and choose to redindex the database later.

You may have noticed that some changes occurred in your interfaces with the new release of Phraseanet, v3.5.

This new Microlearning will introduce you to the new Action Bar in Phraseanet Production.

Until release 3.1, it looked like:

Now you will get a new Action Bar: Additional features have been included to get a better view, buttons have been reorganized.

Indeed, some actions can now be accessed from the menu (unroll with a click on the arrow) of a major action, and some others have been modified (« Publish ») ou added (« Bridge »).

The “Drag and Drop” function disappeared in Phraseanet Production since release 3.5. Now, to perform an action, select documents from the Results zone and click on any of the actions.

Among available actions:

– Select type of documents (all, none, pictures only, documents only, videos only, sounds only)
– Export and Print
– Edit, view the Properties and Move collection
– Share: Push, Bridge (New) and Publish
– Tools
– Delete

In Phraseanet, you may publish documents very easily on an external website, a WordPress blog for instance.

From the Production module, create a new basket and click on “Diffuse”;

The interface requests your login information (address of your website, login and password), then you can see immediately the result of your publication on your WordPress Blog.

Click on the first picture, it will be displayed on the Phraseanet interface:

If you come back to your database, in the Production module, double click on the preview, you will have access to all statistics: number of views and/or downloads from your blog…

What is a “Basket”?

In Phraseanet, a basket allows a user to put a selection of documents aside. The basket zone is on the left side of your page, in the Production module:

The basket allows you to work on those documents, to ask a validation (other users’ opinion) and you also can make a lot of actions, like sharing a batch of documents to a WordPress blog.
